About Us

Scandinavian Beneficent Association Nordlyset

The Scandinavian Beneficent Association Nordlyset, founded in Brazil on May 9th 1891, is the result of the dedication and effort of a group of Danish immigrants to assist their colony, especially seeking union and fraternity among its members. Apart from its notable dedication to the advancement of industry, agriculture and engineering this initial group has much contributed to facilitate the adaptation of new immigrants that landed in Brazil, stimulating their integration to Brazilian society.

It is noteworthy to mention the creation of a Relief Fund for the support of needy elderly Scandinavians as well as the incentives in culture, like the formation and expansion of the entity’s library. Among the Scandinavians accomplishments in this century of celebration we can also mention the building of the Scandinavian Lutheran Church and its community center Scandinavium.
